• Afro-Cuban Percussion - with Vincent Sebastian
  Saturday 11 July 2009 2.00pm-3.30pm
  Learn to play traditional Afro-Cuban rhythms on Congas, Bongos and Cowbells. In this fun workshop you will learn how to play various Cuban rhythms and how they fit together in a group, such as an orchestra or drum circle. You will learn popular rhythms as Salsa, Son, Cha Cha Cha, as well as the ancient Afro rhythms and Cuban Carnaval styles. Workshops are for the absolute beginner to intermediate, whether you love percussion or just enjoy Latin music, or want to play with DJs.
  Vincent Sebastian is of Latin origin and studied percussion in La Habana, Cuba. In Sydney he plays for the band Watussi, while featuring heavily in Sydney’s nightclub scene both as a percussionist and MC/singer. He tours extensively both in Australia and abroad, and is a sought after session percussionist.
  What to wear/bring: Bring your own CONGA or BONGOS and get $5.00 back on the day. Mention if you are bringing a drum or not at time of booking.

Tone up those abs and tune into your rhythmic rotations as you learn to command a bigger, heavier hoop. The aim of this class is to create a space for those new to the hoopla to come together and share in the joy of learning with a high-energy workout and wide range of moves and tricks to explore and take home with you.   International Guest Workshop: We are excited to have Kenny Personett, Dancer and Choreographer from Los Angeles, to come take a guest workshop at Dance Central. This workshop will be intricate, smooth, and precise. You'll be dancing to the latest chart topping music and learning what it takes to be a professional dancer. Be prepared to work hard, sweat and have a lof of fun. This workshop is intended for Intermediate/Advanced dancers.
  Kenny Personett born in Kansas City, MO studied dance at the Conservatory of Dance Education until finding his way into a professional dance company located in Houston, TX and eventually onto cruise ships. He has taught at dozens of studios throughout the US and been a guest instructor for international workshops. Kenny currently resides in Los Angeles, CA and has recently been asked to choreograph a piece for the LA Choreographers Carnival August 26th. He is also working with Nick Zborowski on the Debbie Reynolds Choreographers Showcase. Kenny has worked with top choreographers Marty Kudelka (Justin Timberlake), Nick Z (Urban Legends), Havic (Mya) and many more.

  Samba de Gafieira is a partner dance completely different from International Ballroom Samba. It was created as a social dance in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and it is the real partner version of SAMBA. We can dance with most kind of sambas but some are much more appropriated to that such as bossa nova, samba cançăo, choro, etc... Samba de Gafieira was influenced by others dances such as Tango and Bolero but has established its own identity. It is a very beautiful dance, full of grace and playfulness.
  Edgee Ribeiro brought to Sydney this unique style of Brazilian Dance in 2001 performing at the Brazilian Festivals, private functions, community events, Viva ao Mundo show etc... Edgee also plays in his Brazilian band where he encourages his students to attend their performances to dance Samba de Gafieira.
